Sticking Around: NYX Longwearing Lip Color

Sticking Around: NYX Longwearing Lip Color

Let’s admit it ladies, we’re all on the constant hunt for that lipstick that actually stays on past the first half hour of the party but doesn’t set us back a full week’s worth of mid-morning Starbuck’s runs. I’ve tried countless “24 hour wear!” and “smooch-proof!” lipsticks and stains, but with every new product trial run, I keep finding myself saddened by the lipstick stain on my cup after just one sip, and my wallet feeling even sadder.

The search for staying power may seem pretty hopeless at this point, but let me share with you the gold that I recently struck in the quest for long wearing lipsticks. It’s NYX lip color, and it is a game changer.

The first shade I tried was the Matte Lipstick in Perfect Red. I purchased this for a date night and was counting on it to stay put for at least a little while. Only setting me back about six dollars, my hopes were not high; however, the matte hue applied super easily and felt creamy, not dry. An hour and a few sips later, it was miraculously still there.

If matte isn’t your style, these shades are available in Butter Lipstick as well, which dry to a glossier finish. With huge shade offerings but a tiny price, NYX lip color is exactly what we’ve been looking for. Ladies everywhere, rejoice with that trendy bold lip (Don’t worry, it will stick around!)

Frizz Be Gone

If you have curly hair, then you know how annoying frizz can be. Here are some helpful tips to cut down on frizz, even in the hottest of temperatures.

  1. Instead of drying your hair with a towel, dry your hair with an old tee shirt. Towels create friction on the hair, which tends to lead to more frizz.
  2. Use cold water to rinse our shampoo and conditioner – this smoothes the cuticle, which keeps hair shinier.
  3. Try not to brush your hair when you get out of the shower – scrunch your hair with your hands or a tee shirt to let your natural curls take shape.
  4. Touch your hair as little as possible, the more you tousle your hair during the day the more frizz you’ll see.
  5. Use a curl cream when you get out of the shower to scrunch your hair, this helps the curls keep their shape for a longer period of time.

Now that we are in the full swing of the fall season and winter is quickly approaching, there is nothing more practical and comfortable than your favorite pair of leggings! So many people have said that leggings aren’t pants, but I refuse to believe it! There are countless ways that you can dress up your leggings for a cute yet comfy look. Here are just a few:

  1. Sweater Weather : Pair an over-sized sweater and a pretty-patterned scarf on top and slide your feet into some cutie booties J
  1. Business casual: Throw on your favorite loose-fit T-shirt and then layer it with a stylish blazer for a look that’s both classy and casual. Flats or heels both work with this look, and you can choose to dress it up with a statement necklace or a nice clutch for a night out.
  1. Leather is Better: Take a leather jacket and throw it over a tiered or flowing top. Next step is to tie up your boots or favorite sneakers, and don’t forget a chunky bracelet!
  1. Cardi Party: For this look all you need to do it put a long-length cardigan with a plain T-shirt and a warm knit scarf. To complete the outfit, put on some riding boots!
Baring it All for Fall

Baring it All for Fall

By Angela Anastasi

We’ve heard it as many times as the new JBiebs single: nudes are in this fall. From bare lips to pale nails, the most timeless shade is the one that’s hardly there. The nude eye look is a trend that has been around since I bought my first Claire’s 52-shade eye shadow palette, and the versatility of natural makeup looks is great for the college girl on the go. But with so many choices in stores, how do you choose that perfect shade of ‘almost nothing?’ I’ve tested out some of the most talked about shades to make your hunt a little easier.

Maybelline The Nudes Palette $9.99, Drugstores

This was the first nude palette I had ever tried. I was a little skeptical because of the affordability of it, but it is amazing for ladies on a budget. The color range takes you from day to night, and our helpful friends at Maybelline included recommended looks on the back of the packaging so that you can create a guaranteed gorgeous look. I must warn you that the shades are not as pigmented as some other shadows I’ve used, but for everyday wear this palette does the job.

Clinique All About Shadow Quad in Teddy Bear Macy’s, $28.50

Clinique has been my tried and true for a while now, and this palette is no exception. Clinique has some of the most longwearing shadows I’ve tried, and these colors complement most skin tones with the dark-to-light range. At $28 for only four colors, the price is a little steep, but the timelessness is worth the investment.

Urban Decay Naked 2 $55, Ulta

Any story on nude eye shadow would be incomplete without at least mentioning Naked. If you’re like me, you frequently stay up at night wondering why ladies are willing to drop a paycheck on eye shadow. When I finally caved and bought Naked 2, I was a little overwhelmed by the amount of options in the palette, but fear not! These colors are super blendable and complement each other in a way that makes it pretty impossible to mess up. Be warned that the colors are highly pigmented and are best applied in layers. There is definitely a reason why this palette is ~everything~ in the makeup world.

Now you have my insight on the loveliest of the low-key, the barest of them all. Now, go forth and go nude!

How To: 5-Minute Makeup

How To: 5-Minute Makeup

It’s hard to wake up in the morning for class, but even when you hit snooze too many times, you don’t have to look as rough as your eight AM’s. Here are some quick and easy tips to look alive and ready to take on the day in five minutes or less!

  1. Tinted moisturizer is your friend. You can easily dab it on with a beauty blender or clean hands for color-corrected skin with a soft, dewy finish.
  2. Don’t forget powder! Tinted moisturizers are great, but it won’t look so cute when you wake up from a mid-class snooze with a splotchy hand print on your face, so always remember to set your moisturizer with a translucent powder using a large, fluffy brush. For extra coverage, give a color matching pressed powder a try.
  3. Frame your face.  Brows frame your face, so you have to keep them “on fleek.” If your brows aren’t tame when you wake up, use a clear brow gel to get them all into place. After that, use your favorite brow pencil and/or a matte shadow that matches your brow color to shape and fill in sparse areas.
  4. Curl and lengthen your lashes. Always make sure to curl your lashes and apply your favorite mascara in generous coats to the top and bottom lashes.  This will really open up and define your eyes.
  5. Shimma, shimma.  No one has time for a well-blended smoky eye in five minutes (let’s be real), but it only takes a few seconds to sweep a shimmery shadow on the inner corner of your eye and on your brow bones to make your eyes look lighter and brighter.  The world will never know that you didn’t get a full 10 hours of sleep the night before!
  6. If you still have a minute left, line those eyes! A thin stroke of liquid liner will always make your look sharp and chic, and if you like it, then you should probably put a wing on it.

Never feel like you have to sacrifice style for time. You can get a simple and fresh makeup look that will last you all day and won’t make you late for class.

Fashion is tedious. It takes thought. With the overloaded schedule that comes with being a college student, many of us don’t prioritize looking stylish to class. But with everything, there are exceptions.

Public relations student Melissa Martinez likes to deviate from the typical ‘Cuse attire of sweatpants and hoodies. Martinez loves fashion so much she has translated her passion to reporting on Syracuse students’ outfits as a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista.

NikeLab X Sacai

NikeLab X Sacai

Nike 1

Ever since Yeezy collaborated with Adidas, the fashion world has been carefully watching how the athletic fashion brand will retaliate. Nike’s response is finally here; it has teamed up with the ultra-stylish brand, Sacai.

Sacai was created by Japanese designer Chitose Abe in 1999 after leaving Commes des Garςons. Abe primarily works with high quality knits and contrasting fabrics. Many of Sacai’s pieces have an elegant, sporty look to them, as evident in Sacai’s focus on fabric innovation.

Nike 2

The grace and fragility of Sacai’s designs have crossed over successfully with Nike’s iconic neon color scheme. Working with Nike’s Tech Fleece fabric, Sacai and the athletic industry giant produced crew sweatshirts, crew hooded sweatshirts, crew tops, running shoes, crew knee-length dresses, and sweatpants. According to Anna Dello Russo’s blog, Abe was focused on the action of the outfits during athletic movements and the outfits’ unique structures.

“For me, Nike is an original icon with performance and innovation at its core,” Abe said. “It has been inspiring to work together”.

All pieces are available at Nike’s website in bright or more humble colors. While the pieces are not cheap, with the least expensive item being $150 and the most expensive being $350, they are far less expensive than the average Sacai shirt. In perspective, NikeLab X Sacai pieces a more affordable way to get the Sacai style.

Besides, if you are running outside and need that extra encouragement to finish the mile, realizing you look badass will give the strength you need. That is worth more than $350.
