As the days get colder and grow shorter, many long for the hot summer months they were cursing away not too long ago. To make matters worse, designers showed their spring collections at New York Fashion Week, with light, airy spring and summer clothes. Newcomers such as Bibhu Mohapatra and Maki Oh dazzled with their bold prints. Fashion Week veterans Lanvin, Altuzarra, Peter Pilotto, and Oscar de la Renta won new fans and satisfied old ones with their graphic looks.

Luckily, reinterpreting spring clothing into fall ready looks is quite simple with a couple of easy tricks. Lanvin’s heavy brocade pants and severely cut blazer combo is easily re-creatable with a solid, fall-colored blazer and darker, plaid pants. With a pair of simple shoes, this look is an instant business-casual success.

The breezy crop top and matching pants by Bibhu Mohaptra may intimidate inhabitants of the colder states but an easy chambray shirt can help you out. Swap the strappy heels with warm, thick-heeled booties and you’re ready to face the dipping temperatures.
