Skin Care Hour: Transitioning into the Colder Weather.

Skin Care Hour: Transitioning into the Colder Weather.

As the weather is getting chillier and colder, your skin gets dryer and calls for extra attention to hydration. Just as your lips would chap in the cooler weather, the same happens to your skin. Especially in a frosty city like Syracuse, it is even more important to make sure your skin doesn’t get dehydrated. When it does, it may appear to be lifeless, dull, patchy or flaky (you definitely don’t want that). Keeping your skin well hydrated can make it appear more plump and vibrant, and most importantly, your skin will be less prone to wrinkles.

Here are some tips and products to try for better, hydrated skin…your skin will thank you!

1. Remember not to over cleanse or over exfoliate your face, as this could strip off the natural oil it needs to remain moisture balanced. Instead of the harsher cleansing products that you would use in the summer, switch to a more gentle and nourishing cleanser that won’t dry out your skin.  Simple Moisturizing Facial Wash is a good product to use for the colder days because it claims to have vitamins added and it is soft and gentle yet still cleanses your face thoroughly.

2. Use a toner after cleansing. Facial toners consist of moisturizers, oils and extracts that helps soothe and hydrate your skin. (Be careful not get the toners that are alcohol based because those are the ones that are used to remove oil). Tonique Douceur by Lancome is a refreshing and hydrating toner that is alcohol-free.

3. Using a face serum in the colder seasons are extra beneficial. Serums are highly concentrated with loads of nutrients and vitamins and have the ability to penetrate within the layers of your skin. Just apply a dime size amount all over your face after the toner and it will be almost like a light mask for your face! Try Aqualia Thermal Serum by Vichy.

4. Last but definitely not least, a good moisturizer. Applying a moisturizer is one of the most important steps of your skin care routine. The moisturizer will act as a seal to lock in all the moisture and vitamins that you have just applied on your face and it makes sure your skin stay hydrated throughout the day. Aqualia Thermal Rich Cream by Vichy is a very good moisturizer for the colder days. It is a fortifying and soothing 48-hour cream that is made with mineral-rich thermal water.
