As models walked down the runways at the 2013 Spring shows, their otherwise demure outfits were toughened up by loads of leather. Leather popped up just about everywhere—on pants, skirts, tops, and bags. At Jason Wu, the spring collection appeared to be 1950’s housewife meets biker chick. Silhouettes were structured and sexy. Bustiers and bra tops were part of many of the looks, but Wu kept it balanced by pairing each with a mid-length skirt or tailored short. By treating leather as if it were fabric, Wu created a feminine look entirely his own.
This look is truly the best of both worlds. By pairing the bright lace tee with tough leather shorts, you go from overly girly to fashion forward. Plus, the high-waisted rise of the shorts will help create an enviable hourglass figure. Add even more leather with a pair of black patent flats, and finish the look off with a swipe of matte red lipstick.
This second look is more suited for a night out. Show some skin with a leather bustier tank, but be sure to cover up on bottom with a beige midi-skirt. Stash your belongings in a silver box clutch, and add some height with these mesh-paneled pumps. Though constructed entirely of neutrals, this outfit is anything but boring.
