Nothing says Friday morning coffee date like an oversized chambray shirt, leggings and combat boots. Freshman Elisha McGinnis wanted to look casual but put together for coffee with a friend at Café Kubal .
“I love being comfortable, but adding little touches to make things interesting, “ McGinnis said.
McGinnis often finds her favorite pieces from “undercover” boutiques in the Soho and Canal areas of New York City. She also regularly travels to Ireland where she loves finding unique fashions.
McGinnis’ outfit works here because it’s simple and the proportions are right. Her gray t-shirt compliments the chambray overshirt instead of trying to be the focal point. The white socks tie in the lightness of the outfit, and give her combat boots a sportier vibe. Her short brown boots don’t overwhelm the outfit, and work on her small figure, with the long shirt balancing out the ensemble. Finally, McGinnis’ understated jewelry adds a feminine touch.
Chambray shirts are frequently spotted around campus, like this boyfriend-inspired version from Madewell. They add an easy, breezy feel to any outfit.
“I always find myself wanting to throw mine on,” said McGinnis. “It’s the best.”
